The Debut of “Frequency” With Rev Dino on Primer Radio!

frequencyReverend Dino (dean-ohhh) Mangino was raised in the wet and grey Pacific Northwest, where as a child he worked the forests thinning trees. Growing tired of smelling of pine pitch and living off of rainwater and spruce bud worms, he moved to the big city of Portland, OR, where he started his quest for rock and roll stardom during the late 1980s and early 90s New Wave to Grunge era.

With classical percussion and jazz fusion training under his belt, Dino made an attempt at becoming a legendary drumming deity, in the band “The Stoopid Chemists.” Unsuccessful in his attempt, he turned to what other disillusioned, failed musician’s do- he became a harsh and cutting music critic for a local music ‘zine.

Over the next year and through a variety of circumstances, Dino soon took over the music magazine, and with the help of an amazing all volunteer staff of 27 people, turned a dinky, inconstantly published rag and built it into a regionally popular and successful music, art and lifestyle magazine, running it for three years- until its closing in Winter of 2000.

Dino pondered his next moves and soon found his way to the hot and dry weather of the Southwest, where he opened a small record store. Little did he know that he and his long time friend and business partners’ small little store would cause two of their long time in business competitors to have to merge together to battle against Dino and the little store.

Dino, with promotional success in the past of rock music shows under the music magazine, decided to throw large electronic music events (aka Raves) and between himself, his business partner and their small little store- are credited by many people in reviving the electronic music scene in Arizona, with the first big event in the state in over Three years, “Delight.”

Still never giving up his dreams of being a backstage Rockstar and being able to play toss the headcheese on the exposed back of the groupie in a pirate costume, he took to managing bands and out of the bands he worked with, actually scored one who made something of themselves, until their label closed.

Wandering aimlessly through the desert, he ran across Yeti Wizard Todd Alan and with this seed called Primer Radio Todd Planted…and with a lot of fertilizer the two of them have marched through together with their other partner…cultivated this seed and have grown it into a giant bean stock.

Currently, Yeti Wizard Todd and Reverend Dino along with the rest of the Primer Radio team are climbing the stock to see what beans are growing at the top, ever stopping along the way to record shows to speak of their lives.

Some days, he still thinks of the taste of roasted spruce bud worms…

You can hear Rev. Dino on the Unsigned and Indie rock music show Frequency, Every Friday on PrimerRadio.com
